Workshop -Building Fertile Ground

$50.00

Join Jess Soza and Nina Listro for a full day of learning, connection, and hands-on practice at Arroyo Runs Through It in San Pedro, NM. Together, we’ll explore how to build healthy, living soil using simple, low-input methods that work in concert with nature.

Throughout the day, participants will learn the foundations of soil health, experiment with using tools to work along a contour, and collaborate to build a hugelkultur—a fun and effective way to turn organic materials into rich, water-holding soil.

We’ll start the morning with an interactive discussion on soil and permaculture principles, enjoy a provided lunch, and spend the afternoon digging in and putting ideas into practice. Come ready to learn, share, and get your hands in the dirt!

When: Sunday, October 26, 2025, 9am-4pm

Where: Arroyo Runs Through It

74 Snowy Owl Road, Stanley, NM 87056

Cost: $50 per person.

If the cost presents a financial barrier, please reach out to Nina at arroyorunsthroughit@gmail.com. No one will be turned away due to lack of funds.

About Your Instructors
Jessica Soza

Jessica has been a professional gardener and permaculture designer for 20 years, specializing in soil development and food forest design.  After an internship and training  at Occidental Arts and Ecology Center in 2004, she worked with leading edge designers for several years before starting Exultant Gardens.  She remains delighted with the work and in awe of what can happen when soil is built and tended well.

Nina Listro

Nina discovered her love for farming and working in harmony with nature at just sixteen, when a spontaneous decision to buy a few dairy goats led her to an internship at a local goat creamery in her home state of Vermont. Since then, she has traveled the world studying holistic and regenerative approaches to farming and animal husbandry.

Today, Nina and her husband, Dylan, co-own Arroyo Runs Through It, a micro-farm nestled in the heart of New Mexico’s San Pedro Mountains. When she’s not diving into a new farm project or tending to her small herd of dairy sheep, Nina can be found helping others build water resilience through rainwater catchment systems and water-harvesting earthworks.
