Sheep Milk Herdshare
We’re excited to be launching our sheep milk herdshare this year!
A herdshare (sometimes called an agistment) is a simple way to access fresh milk directly from the farm. Members purchase a share in the herd and, in return, receive a portion of the milk the herd produces.
Herdshare members pay a monthly maintenance fee that covers the cost of caring for and feeding the animals. In exchange, members receive their portion of the milk throughout the season. Our 2026 herdshare will begin in late May, with the sheep in milk through early November.
We raise East Friesian/Lacaune/Awassi sheep—breeds known for producing exceptionally rich, creamy milk. Sheep dairies are few and far between in New Mexico, so this is a unique opportunity to be part of a working sheep herd and enjoy fresh, raw milk with higher butterfat and natural sugar content than even cow’s milk. It’s incredible in coffee, delicious for yogurt or cheese-making, poured over cereal, or simply enjoyed as a tall, refreshing glass.
Herdshare FAQs
-
Members are responsible for paying the one time buy-in fee and monthly maintenance fees.
Members are responsible for picking up their milk (either at the farm or another local pick up point in Cedar Crest or Madrid/Cerrillos) on a weekly or biweekly basis depending on membership type.
Members are responsible for returning all jars and they must be returned clean. Jars may not be used for anything other than milk from the herdshare.

To become a member of the herdshare, you will need to pay a one time buy-in fee, due upon registration, which grants you ownership to your portion of the herd. Upon payment, you will receive a bill of sale. If you decide to terminate your membership, we will buy back your herdshare for the original price you paid (I.e. your buy-in is refundable).
Full Share (½ gallon per wk) = $125
Half Share (¼ gallon per wk) = $75
Quarter Share (¼ gallon every 2 wks) = $50
Monthly maintenance fee: this is the monthly payment you make to the farm that covers the cost of upkeep, feed, milking, etc. This payment is due by your first milk pick up of the month.
Full Share = $90/month
Half Share = $55/month
Quarter Share = $30/month
Monthly maintenance fees are reduced during the non-milking months (typically November-May):
Full Share: $25/month
Half Share: $15/month
Quarter Share: $9/month
You can cancel your membership at any time. You can cancel your membership after the milking months, but your membership may not be guaranteed in the coming milk season if you decide you want to restart.

Currently, we do not offer other dairy products as part of the herdshare.

You can either pick up your milk at the farm (located in San Pedro), or we are planning to set up pick up points in Cedar Crest and Cerrillos/Madrid.

During the spring, summer, and fall, we rotationally graze our sheep on our 10 acres for their health and the health of the land. They are also given alfalfa/hay at night and throughout the winter. During lactation and through most of their pregnancy, we also feed organic grain from New Country Organics, and they have access to organic sheep mineral. We observe and interact with our sheep daily to make sure they’re in good health.
